Launch of the Institutional Research Theme (IRT): Food, Nutrition and Wellbeing
The University of Pretoria has established an Institutional Research Theme (IRT) named FOOD, NUTRITION AND WELL-BEING.
Institutional Research Theme entitled Food, Nutrition and Well-being seeks to address the emerging societal challenges related to food insecurity, nutrition deficiencies, and hunger especially in Africa. It is seen as a vehicle to _ in the medium term create a structure such as an Institute of Food, Nutrition and Wellbeing to bring together all the Universitys postgraduate teaching and research expertise and activities in this regard to ultimately become a Centre of Excellence. This institute will be critical to address the aforementioned challenges.
The vision of this institute is to be the leading international centre of excellence in transdisciplinary research and postgraduate training to address current constraints to attaining the Millennium Development Goals related to food, nutrition and well-being in sub-Saharan Africa in comprehensive and innovative ways by the year 2020.
The Institute will be officially launched on Monday, the 28th of May 2012, at the Graduate Centre.
